From Martin Jones, 12th March 2019

Harry loved the church and village and contributed countless hours preparing for church festivals, celebrations and exhibitions.

Some of his most valued creative work was in designing and building the sets for Sunday School and Junior Church plays, whether this was for Harvest Festival, Mothers' Day, Christmas, or other occasions.

Harry made some wonderful props for plays and exhibitions. This was made for the church's 'EIIR 90' exhibition in 2016, celebrating Her Majesty's 90th birthday.

He was an enthusiastic attender at our Friday Coffee Mornings and I would often talk to him about his wartime experiences as an RAF aircraft fitter in Italy keeping Spitfires and Hurricanes in the air in the battle against the Luftwaffe, setting up Tividale Rovers FC in the post-war period, and working as a draughtsman for Joseph Gillott in Dudley.

We have lost a lovely, kind, generous and intensely creative man, who made a massive contribution to church life and will be very sadly missed.

Here is an interview with Harry about his experiences maintaining Spitfires in World War Two in Italy:
